The Garmin nuvi 765T is a pretty good product. It has a ton of features that are helpful when navigating in the city or the countryside. I have 2 complaints about this product:
1 –the touch screen is very inaccurate. Regardless of how many times you sych the screen it seems to regularly fail or be off by as much as inch. Not acceptable in this day and age.
2–this one is not so bad but when you get deep down in the menus, you have to select back many times to get back to your navigation. What about adding a button that will allow you move back with one selection?
Overall, this is a nice product and works well.
It’s not perfect, but it at least works

The thing would be a lot better if it send me on more practical routes instead of ones that add extra time on the trip. You just have to remember to have a basic idea of where you’re going before you leave home and trust this thing. It’s not human, and you should practice good decision making when listening to it. But regardless, it’ll still get you there.
The traffic warnings are far from being accurate. I hit 20 miles of stop and go construction on a road trip, and the Garmin said I was clear the whole time, but that the other side of the street was backed up. Ironically the other side was wide open. When had another time where the Garmin suddenly said, “Severe traffic ahead. Rerouting. Go …..” Well, the unit will show a red or yellow indicator and say how many minutes of delay. It only said it was a one minute delay, and yellow. The detour put us in the middle of stop and go traffic in the down town area of a major city, and it took us 45 minutes to get back to the highway. When we did, the traffic was clear.
Overall, the unit is still worth the money. It is very helpful, especially for my wife who forgets to pay attention to the signs, or where she is. I wouldn’t pay retail price, but for what I paid here on Amazon, I don’t regret it. It’s a piece of technology, which is made by man, and man isn’t perfect.

As usual excellent Garmin GPS. The touch screen is not as good as my IPhone, not as responsive. When you spell a name or enter an address the the space between adjacent letters or numbers is too small and unless your careful you can easily make mistakes. Annoying since the erase button is very small.
I hope in the future that they can in some way integrate with Google Maps. For business searches I use IPhone Google Maps as its a lot faster and more complete.
As above a great product, I highly recommend it.
This GPS rocks

I finally broke down and decided it was time to get up-to-date with technology and buy a GPS. Since this was my first purchase, I put a lot of time into researching it. So far this Garmin nuvi has been right on although I wish Garmin would update their maps more often. We have a portion of interstate beltway that has been open for a year and it still hasn’t shown up. Anyway…this device is easy to use. The Bluetooth works great although don’t forget to turn it off on the unit when you are shutting down as it will drain your battery. (I’m still getting used to Bluetooth too.) The lane assist in the upper left corner is very helpful and the larger view onscreen helps too, when it displays. I think the number of cities for this is growing. I love this GPS and would definitely recommend it.

I bought my 765T about 7 months ago and very happy with the unit, right out of the box it was good to go. Ease to use and load way-points are fantastic, the traffic alerts have been accurate and very helpful in getting around, probably my favorite feature. I updated the maps when I first purchased the unit, may have been the worst experience, just time comsuming.
I get errors now and then, usually when the unit is off and turned back on. It will not find a satellite signal and I have to shut it down and back on to reset it, then it works. Pretty frustrating and most of teh time I leave it on to avoid this problem.
I highly reccomend this GPS for the travler, verious areas and need ot know real-time traffic
Great GPS unit

This is my first GPS purchase and after much investigation, I decided to try the Garmin Nuvi 765t. I read dozens of reviews on many different GPS units and found that there is no universally approved unit on the market. It seems that no matter the brand and features, someone seemed to be miserably unhappy with their choice.
My recommendation is to list the features you need and separately list the features you would like but don’t need. Then start searching for the right combination. After narrowing your search, read the reviews that are available. If you find complaints that are repeated for a unit, that should be a red flag. I looked for reasonable complaints that might lean more toward unfamiliarity or personal preference.
I ultimately chose the 765t because it included almost every feature I needed and wanted with a very reasonable price to match. I wanted voice recognition but figured that the trade off in other functions isn’t worth it right now. After the technology has been out a little longer and the memory penalty is less severe, I’ll try one of the voice activated models.
The 765t is very easy to use right out of the box and I have had no problems through the first month of use. Although I read several complaints concerning the volume of the unit, that has not been a problem for me. Whether allowing the unit to process the sound or putting it through the vehicle stereo speaker system, the sound has been easy to hear. I prefer the sound directly from the GPS.
Very nice but not perfect

If you’ve got big fingers, the touch screen presents a problem – you almost need a stylus. Seems to take too long to locate satellites for a brand new unit. Set up for Bluetooth was a snap. Very nice screen and visual effects. The new menu takes some getting used to for previous Garmin owners.

The Garmin 765T works as I expected nearly flawless. This is my second Garmin GPS, and both have worked as good as advertised or better. I upgraded to the 765T because I wanted the lane assist and traffic updates. Below are my Pro’s and Con’s.
Pro’s:
Free Traffic for the life of device.
Lane Assist.
Faster map updates.
Con’s:
Speaker for device isn’t sufficient for operations with the windows down or bluetooth.
Some humble thoughts
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this unit because I am new to the area. It is impossible (in my opinion) to tell “WHICH IS THE BEST GPS EVER” because there are die-hard fans of each brand regardless, so when you buy one that isn’t your brand, you can’t really have an open mind and be totally unbiased. What I am saying is that you need to know beforehand what you want in the GPS and be satisfied with what you buy. I am satisfied that I got what I paid for, though there are a few things I haven’t been able to take advantage of – at least yet. The research that I did led me to this brand and this product in particular. Here are my thoughts so far (having only had it for a half a week, and maybe I’ll update on other features later).
Positives: It is EXTREMELY easy to use. My wife isn’t a techie, and she can just as easily navigate as I can. This is probably the most important feature in any GPS, (in my opinion). The reason is, when you want to get somewhere, you want it to be easy to find, easy to see when you’re navigating, and overall if you need to change it while on the road (which you should NEVER do while driving, admittedly), you don’t want a lot of confusion and button pushing to fix the navigation. Everyone I researched on said that the Garmin’s biggest positive against most other brands is the ease of use- they weren’t lying. I also turned up the detail to “High” settings and the picture is really nice. It doesn’t add a lot of details to the actual map, but you do notice a bit of difference in clarity.
Features: I can’t give a decent opinion on price. Generally, I like to go with the middle of the road type products because what I have noticed on a lot of high end GPS’s is that they brag on features that come standard on lower end units, with only slight (if any) variation. Well, duh! Save a buck then and swallow your pride. Intelligent people shouldn’t fall for that, especially in our economic situation! The MSN service is ending in 2012, so beware of paying for something that will be discontinued.
[...] This comes on the 780, but traffic updates I believe come through MSN(?) The 765t is lifetime traffic with the cord you need. Again, everything is ready to use RIGHT out of the box.
A big factor in my waiting to purchase any GPS was price. I paid 260 for this unit only because of gift money. If I had a very small budget, I would have gone with a 2xx series instead of the 765t. Consumer Reports ranked them high. Heads up if that’s you. I appreciate (on the 765) the posted speed limit (which I guess would be a negative if I was speeding and a cop pulled me over and pointed out that my GPS tells me what the speed limit that I was breaking was), the lifetime free traffic (which if you add on to your GPS is like 129 dollars), The big buttons on the main screen (Easy to see and use), the POI (point of interest) menu is easy to navigate and has a ton of information on places near you. I like the fact that from POI menu you can type in a location you want to find without having an exact address, like you would need if you tried to navigate from the “Where to” menu on the main screen. I like the “Favorites” screen. It is neat to be able to set a favorite and make it easy to navigate to something saved to the GPS. While not a “favorite” by definition, putting a work address in there or traveling home to see family are both advantages that you can save in there before traveling to save time. I have good satellite reception, something that a lot of reviews said really stunk on Garmin devices. I know two other Garmin units in my family (no, I didn’t select Garmin for that reason) and they have never had a problem, either. Both units were far less expensive than mine as well. The clip mount for the windshield is EASY and awesome. The unit plugs in with ease and comes off with ease by a button release under the mount. The traffic/charger is neat, too.
Negatives: I didn’t check the bluetooth compatibility with phones before purchasing, and unfortunately mine isn’t compatible. But my phone, unfortunately, isn’t an old one- so that REALLY stinks. My wife’s bluetooth headset isn’t working well, so I kept telling her to wait until the GPS came… Big bummer there. I don’t know if that can be an update released by Garmin, but that would be nice if you could. Another negative (and I think this one is basically preference) is that when you re-route because of traffic, you have to confirm the route change (because the GPS is set for minimal distance or time, or whatever from point “a”-”b”. I understand that you would maybe want the GPS to confirm (kind of like a confirmation on your computer to delete a file) but why would I go into the re-routing traffic screen if it weren’t to avoid the traffic up ahead? Considering I am doing the change while driving, I would want it as simple and easy as possible. The static on the FM transmitter (that allows you to hear navigation through your speakers) was annoying to me. It wasn’t really bad, but it was enough to mention. Other than that, it is a nice feature to have because it makes navigation louder. One thing I don’t know is whether or not you can listen to music while navigating through the speakers. If not (and I am guessing it is not possible) that would really stink, too. Also, the touch screen doesn’t respond really good. I have big fingers, which is my problem, but the buttons on the keyboard are small and its easy to make mistakes in spelling because of it. I have waited on getting an ITOUCH or IPHONE for (price) and also for the touch screen technology to get better. Sometimes I hit the down arrow for more options on the main screens and it selects something I didn’t press. That’s annoying, too. I have found it is much more accurate if you use nails, but then I would think you run the risk of scratching the unit. To get to the calibration menu, you have to turn off/on the unit while singing a song and doing a jig. It would be much better if it was one simple button in one of the menus. Additionally, calibrating the unit didn’t help with my problems. I think I need some new fingers.
Don’t Know about yet Features:
I tried to plug in my IPOD through the GPS and it hasn’t worked. I don’t even know if it can, but I tried and it was unsuccessful. The MP3 player is neat, works pretty well, too. I don’t know how many songs you could put on it at one time, but whatever. The SD card slot makes it easy to transfer pictures and music to the GPS.
The lane assistant hasn’t come up at all yet, nor have all the arrows that the pictures advertising the unit come up. I haven’t seen any 3-D buildings come up, either. I live close to Philadelphia and Camden- areas that I would assume that the lane assistant could be helpful to have. The lane assistant is one of the biggest reasons why I got this unit. The 780 was 50 bucks cheaper, but it was discontinued when I ordered it and I didn’t want to deal with the headache. Plus, this lane assistant was new technology and I thought it would make navigation that much easier for my wife as well. I also understand, however, that it isn’t designed for EVERY highway experience, but rather some of the more confusing ones. I am anxious to see it, though.
I don’t know how easy it is to add a picture to your destination- I will probably do that soon. I like the idea of having pictures for POIs on or close to your driving route. If you’re out on a Sunday drive and you see one, then you might be persuaded to check them out. That’s neat, in my opinion.
*Additional update 1: I downloaded all the free updates that come on the unit, haven’t noticed anything fabulous as a result. I also added pictures from other GPS users who marked out certain locations. I don’t know, but it seems after putting those items on it really slows down the unit. Maybe its the pictures because they are the last to appear on screen. I was hoping that the pictures would show up on the map, but it appears that they are simply marked with a camera icon. Now I regret doing it, but I am not sure how to get those pictures off. Annoying.

I first purchased a TomTom 340 and sent it back after a few days because there is no way to correct a route other than looking up your route on a map and then deviate from the GPS route. I don’t need a GPS if I have to plan my own route on a map.
I then ordered a Garmin 765T and with the help of their excellant tech deptartment, they showed me how to plan any route on my computer and transfer it to the GPS, something the tech people at TomTom said couldn’t be done on any GPS. Guess they hadn’t ever used a Garmin.
Only con I have found is the volume is to low for me. I have trouble hearing the directions and find it almost impossible to use the cell phone by bluetooth due to low volume, I can’t hear it and the person I am talking to can’t hear me.
Very Good Product

Have used it for a month and it’s great.
Can’t speak for the bluetooth or the wireless reception as I do not use them.
The speed limit will change as you pass the sign, so I guess that the accuracy must be within 13′ as stated.
works well

The vendor experience was AAA1. Unfortunately the vendor closed for a holiday week when I sought exchange because of a bad pixel. I dealt directly with Garmin and was promised a new device. Unfortunately the replacement unit wasn’t shipped quickly, and I had to chase Garmin for information. It arrived late and this created enormous inconvenience due to a planned trip. The replacement unit was not new. There was a shop ticket taped to the back of the unit. I’m out of pocket for the shipping and insurance costs and currency exchange between a credit card charge and subsequent credit when the returned unit paperwork was quickly processed.
The GPS unit works as promised. It’s easy to use. I have Bluetooth recognition with my mobile phone, but haven’t yet made or received a call.
In a Ford Flex, the windshield mount positions the device a LONG way from the driver. I am looking for a mount that brings the device closer, perhaps a holder that clips to a dash air vent.
On some local trips, the route suggested included dirt roads when paved roads are parallel.
The screen is easily covered with fingerprints but this doesn’t impair use. The same cloth I use to clean my LCD monitor works OK for the GPS.
My first GPS,,,let me stay with this brand

The GPS is easy to use…somehow I have not figured out how to use the lifetime free trafic information update…
The GPS will definetly slow down for calculating in downtown of big cities-Chicago…But depents on the the slow traffic movements in those cities…765 is good enough.
I never use the bluetooth,so if your car is equiped with Bluetooth handfree phone system…this function is useless…
great for my first one

Overall this has been a great purchase for my first Car Gps … have used it on a few trips so far – one of which was to Disney Land from Salt Lake City Utah…. it did great overall….only complaints were on some of the Calif roadways it was a bit confusing on a few interchanges, but when we did miss the turnoff it was quick to reconfigure a new workable route…. no worries! Oh, my wife didn’t like the Dr.Dread voice I chose (being October and Halloween and all)…this voice doesn’t verbalize the street names, it only says things like “turn right” or “keep right then turn right”. One other complaint was it took it’s own sweet time loading on initial start-ups…that’s just me wanting everything this instant! And I haven’t seen much in the way of the 3D aspect that this unit — I don’t believe there are many 3D buildings available on the mapping yet.
Great unit

Love the traffic option and the ease of use. This is my 2nd Garmin unit and they do well. Only donside is that in a few years the rechargeablebattery will begin to go and you canot replace the battery at a reasonable cost. At that time its worth upgrading anyway.
Would buy the unit agian!

Just bought unit from Amazon, used it for 500 mile trips. Easy to set up. Time for arrival was dead on as predicted in the driveway. Very accurate maps. Driving tools for mileage, distance, elevation, very helpful. Speaker voice a little weak, but I use it turned off. I would recommend this unit, Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigatorgood display, accuracy, and lots of extras.

Better than previous unit, wider screen and more features. Put it to the test in Boston. If it works there it will work almost anywhere.
Pleased with Garmin 765T
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Overall quite pleased with this GPS. Very quick to initialize and get you going, easy to set an A to B route, good instructions and display. Two complaints: first, zooming in or out is tricky if you want to go from a close shot to overall view of route and back – the screen refresh is slow and spotty in that mode; second, street names are not displayed until the zoom level is too close to be of any use – situational awareness is poor in areas where you are not familiar with the streets. Both are artifacts of screen size, so I doubt if other units are any better, but in my opinion these problems can be corrected, or at least improved. Despite those complaints I recommend this unit; it is an excellent buy.
